Each day will begin with a demo by myself and end with a supportive and encouraging show and tell.

We will focus on creating paintings you love by adopting an intuitive, experimental and open minded approach to art making. And by focusing on being as authentic and honest as possible. We will also focus on places we love, as inspiration for our paintings. I recommend bringing 5-6 photos of places that are special to you, to use as inspiration.

“To create paintings you love, all you have to do, is learn to accept yourself, learn to accept your voice, learn to accept your individual expression. This means letting go of judgement about yourself and-your art. When you do this and allow your deepest inner child out to play, she will delight you with paintings that you love because they have come from your deepest inner self.

In this retreat we will use photos of places we love as our prompt / inspiration. I will be painting in a loose, expressive, authentic impressionistic style. You are welcome and encouraged to paint in this style but you are welcome to paint in whatever style you wish. Whatever style you adopt, and you may choose to experiment with different styles, my focus will be on encouraging you and supporting you to just be raw and honest and not worry about any ideas you may have of external aesthetic standards.

I have been teaching an intuitive and authentic approach to painting for thirty years. While it may often look easy, it is not as easy as it may seem. It requires a certain level of acceptance, a willingness to dare to let yourself be raw and vulnerable and express yourself, creatively, from your inner child.

Exhibiting and teaching since 1994, I have 20 art awards and more
than 50 solo exhibitions to my name, with exhibitions in New York, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and throughout WA. I own two art galleries, the David Giles Art Gallery and Studio 11 Art Gallery, both in Fremantle, and have my own art school, the  Freedom School of Painting. I have sold over a thousand paintings during my career.
